About ‘Feministisk festival’
Some say feminism has gone too far. We say, feminism hasn’t gone far enough and it’s time to go further!
Malmö feministiska nätverk (Malmö Feminist Network) invites you all to a spectacular, FREE and grassroots-oriented feminist festival! June 12-14 in Malmö.
The festival will take place at Moriska paviljongen and Folkets park, and will be open to all. The focus will be on activism and activity, theory and culture/arts. As this is a FREE event there is no need to buy a ticket. All you have to do is to take notes of the dates, check out the program for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and show up! Please scroll down on this page for information about the events in English.
Do not miss out on a visit the feminist market to meet organizations, mingle with your friends and maybe do some feminist shopping. The market is located behind Moriskan.
(Please note: No admission fee before 10 pm. For the club-events Moriska Paviljongen will charge an admission of 80 kr from 22.00-00.00 and 120 kr from 00.00-03.00.However this does not apply to those already in the building).
The festival is a grassroots initiative, run almost entirely by volunteers. We are the ones who create the festival! We have a partnership with Moriska paviljongen, ABF Malmö and Malmö stad who provide pratical as well as financial support for the festival.

WORKSHOP CREATE ENCOURAGING FANTASY-ANIMALS – FROM FEMINIST CAT-ELKS TO QUEER UNICORNS
When: Friday 17:15-18:45
Where: Lilla rummet
Spark your fantasy and creativity. Together we create, welcome and talk about the feminist superheroes of animalia and about expressing ourselves in different artistic ways, drawing, painting, writing, making collages. Give yourselves a shield-animal, totem-animal, patronus or animagus.

LECTURE NO WAR CAN STOP THE WOMEN’S MOVEMENT

The last 20 minutes of the seminar will be a presentation in English by the Iranian journalist and Olof Palme laureate Parvin Ardalan, who will speak about the non-Swedish women’s movement in Malmö.

SCEN FEMINIST SING-ALONG

Together we sing songs that gives us the power to smash patriarchy. Everything from pop hits to roaring battle songs. Half of the songs have English lyrics.

MUSIC NADJA AL-MALKI PRESENTS

Has been described a a groovy hybrid of everything. As the discrepancy of dancing at a reggeaclub in Damascus mixed with the melodies of prayer calls at the streets in the periphery of Stockholm. Presents stands for the musicians that Nadja brings to the stage, who have their base from Stockholm to Havana, and was last seen and heard at Fabrica de Aret Cubano at the festival Love & Peace Havana.
WORKSHOP DRAG WITH VILJA WILLPOWER

Workshop in drag, hequeen/monster/king/nonbinary/genderfuck-party, a lot of make-up, movement, music, characters, etc. We will be working from scratch to create characters, fantasies and acts. A homemade do it yourself-blast.

MUSIC T.W.A.T.

T.W.A.T. is the hip hop collective that delivers flavours of puppylove and underground. With an exciting mix of boom bap beats, dominating texts and beats with bad attitude they create a uniqe sound a la twatlife.
FILM FILM & FEMINISM! Short film lineup with an intersectional gaze.

Short films made by women and trans people that in each in their own way offer a feminist and intersectional story. Some of the movies will be commented and followed up by a Q&A. But it is you, dear viewers, that should continue discussing after the screening – share you experiences, your opinions and your thoughts!

Ella’s friends are busy with fashion and instagramming selfies. Ella wants to be more like them, but her parents do not understand why she needs new clothes. Heartrending about fashion and peer pressure among 9-year old girls.
PUSH ME
Tove Pils, Sweden 2014, 25 min. In Swedish and English, English subtitles.
Siri is at a turning point of her life. She feels frustrated about not having the courage to do what she wants and dreams about. She feels like society, as well as her own boundaries, stops her from living fully; be who she wants to be, scream at the top of her lungs, and live out her fantasy about dominating someone else sexually. Siri’s new friend Lee, a transsexual performance-artist, is going to help her to get rid of her fears.
MEET MY RAPIST
Jessie Kahnweiler, USA 2013, 07.33 min. In English.

It gets real when Jessie runs into her rapist at the farmers market. The unwanted reunion includes dinner with the parents and couples therapy as Jessie is forced to confront the effect he’s had on her life. Meet my Rapist is an exploration in how we make meaning out of the madness in life. Based on a true trauma.

QUEERING SAPMI
Elfrida Bergman & Sara Lindquist, Sweden/Sápmi 2013, 7 min, In nordsamiska, lulesamiska & sydsamiska, English subtitles.
The film QUEERING SÁPMI is a result of the project with the same name that ran between 2011-2015. The aim of the project is to highlight queer Saami voices that in different ways show that people are more than a category. With beautiful pictures of queer Saamis the film creates a nuanced image of LGBTQ-Saamis that challenge norms regarding sexuality and gender.
RAISED IDENTITY
Mio da Costa Alves & Leo Isis Fotopoulos, Sweden 2012, 5 min. No dialogue.
Raised Identity is a exploring and provocative short film and video-installation that focuses on the body as a weapon but also as exposed and weak. It depicts gender and norms from a personal perspective and illustrates the emotions that are created by the society’s unacceptable curiosity regarding bodies that break the norms.
YELLOW FEVER
Ng’endo Mukii, Kenya/UK 2012, 7 min. In English, English subtitles.
Ng’endo Mukii studies film and animation at the Royal College of Art in London. She is interested in the beauty industry and how it affects the self-images of people. In Yellow Fever she has interviewed women about how it feels to be a young African woman in a world where the beauty ideal is light-skinned and Westernized. The result is a poetic short film, animated and mixed with photography.
MAHOYO PROJECT: SOUTH AFRICA
Moira Ganley, Sweden 2014, 30 min. In Swedish and English, English subtitles
The mayoho project is a documentary that follows Mayoho, a Swedish creative trio, as they embark on a cultural exchange – collaboration with local artists in the realms of the growing urban music, fashion and dance scene in Johannesburg. This is juxtaposed against Stockholm’s creative scene and characters. In both places we can see a growing movement where norms and stereotypes are being challenged.
LECTURE STORIES ABOUT ABORTION IN SPAIN

Feminists from Spain tell stories about abortion resistance and mobilization. Two artists and one activist, working with women, will, through their project, tell you about persons in Spain who have – or have not – made an abortion. The collective have worked for a year collecting stories, and on the basis of these created a giant piece of art. That work have been presented in different spaces around Europe, and have now arrived in Feministisk festival in Malmö!

Learn the basics of graffiti. Spray-cans, wall-paint, brushes and protective gear will be available.

A documentary about female street art-artists in Cairo that use graffiti as a means of resistance and to take a stand.
MUSIC KRISTINA ISSA

The band Issa want their music to convey strength and hope, with inspiration from the revolution in the Middle East and Arabic poetry. Kristina released her debut album Afraid of the Wales last year and organized the event ”Arabic Spring” at the Stora Teatern in Gothenburg in May this year.
EXHIBITION WATER, ART, WOMEN, LIFE

The exhibition aims to create a space for activist and artists in Argentina, Bolivia and Europe that together through visual art and writing look at water as an element of life. A common place for both Argentinian women and Europeans, fighting for the right to water. The exhibition ”Water, Art, Women, Life” is dedicate to Cristina Linkopan, a Mapuche woman deeply engaged in the fight against fracking in the province of Neuquen. She died at age 30 from causes linked to pollution caused by the fracking techniques, after a having suffered from strong political pressure and police repression for her resistance.
SEMINAR DO FEMINISTS IN SWEDEN CARE ABOUT INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY?

A discussion about working with international solidarity in Latin America focusing on women. What does this work look like today? Is it possible to do solidarity work when we have global injustices? Why do feminism and international solidarity work seem to only run parallel to eachother ? What can feminists in Sweden learn from the global ”South”? Is the feminist movement in Sweden even interested in global injustices? The talk is arranged by the solidarity feminism and gender-network ”Feminism Utan Gränser”.
Speakers: Diana Mulinari, sociologist and professor of gender studies, Teresa Allendes, Svalorna Latinamerika and Frida Ekelund, Latinamerikagrupperna. Moderator: Carmen Blanco Valet, teacher och global rights-activist.

Since the introduction of the humiliating anti-gay propaganda law in Kyrgyzstan – basically a copy&paste job of the Russian equivalent – discrimination against LGBTIQ persons has continued and intensified, with active aggressions from nationalistic movement. We want to share about the current situation in Kyrgyzstan and call you to support LGBTIQ activism.
